New to me Fender Artist D10.
This guitar is very smooth and has a great mellow tone. I understand these guitars were made by Sho-Bud for Fender. Is this correct?

They're nice guitars, I used to own one. My guitar had a tone identical to a 60's era cable-pull Fender, which I've never found on any other guitar. If I had a gig based on the work of Wynn Stewart, early Buck, Warren Smith, or anything Mooney recorded pre-Sho~Bud, I'd be playing that type of guitar (if I could find one.)

One factor I'm sure that affects its tone is that the changer fingers don't swivel on an axle, but rather rock on a notch that rides on a knife edge piece.

Nice steels. I had one , mine had a Sho~Bud sticker on the pedal rack. Bright tone like a 60's Fender steel , mine was not mellow at all. Yes , made by Sho~Bud .
String spacing was wider than any other pedal steel I've had.
