There is a page dedicated to people learning to play E9th pedal steel. It has an indexed collection of over 180 lessons, as well as charts, articles, tabs, and web links of interest to people learning pedal steel. Most of these materials have been made by forum members. All of them are free to use and require no signup or other commitment.

The site is: https://dhdube.wixsite.com/psgbeginner

The original site, webpages.charter.net/dhdube/, was cancelled by Charter Spectrum effective July 1, 2018.
The new site is much better anyway Smile

It might not have anything of interest to you, but then again it might...

Check it out, there's nothing to lose.

Hi Dave,

I tried the website you listed and nothing comes up. "404 Not Found". Can you please double check the wording?

Charter Spectrum has notified me that it will cease to provide subscribers with websites as of July 1. As a result I have taken a new "free" web site with WIX to continue the beginner's pages. There will be an advertising banner from wix but overall the site is improved. The site formats for phone and tablet as well as computer.

The new URL is https://dhdube.wixsite.com/psgbeginner

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

URL is updated in the above announcement as well.

I have uploaded the Mickey D Tabs and clips zip file and linked them on the PSGBeginner site, so that they will have a home for the foreseeable future.

(See: http://dhdube.wix.com/psgbeginner/tablature )

I tested with Chrome and Internet Explorer. I find that Google drive, which is where I host Zip files, can't scan the zip owing to the size of the file, and gives a message to that effect, however it does offer a download button, which is functioning. The file is the same file offered in the thread on the Tab section of the forum.

This is quick and dirty but addresses the otherwise short term availability of that collection of tab.

Thanks to Charles Stange for his efforts to preserve the files.

The lessons list has been updated and slightly reorganized. The current lesson count is 285 and growing.

New additions include several lessons with backing tracks. These are pretty high-quality lessons.

Also, in addition to the section on C6 sounds for E9th a selection of lessons about Mooney-style "outlaw country" has been added.

The site is dedicated to E9th tuning and is offered freely by the content creators. This site is not affiliated with any content-creator but rather it is just an index of materials relevant to E9th beginner/intermediate players.

Given the woeful situation this last year and how hard it hit the music-making community, let me suggest that if the content creator indicates that he accepts donations, and you have the means and motivation, perhaps you might make a free-will offering.

If you don't have it, don't sweat it--times are tough all over--but if you are planning to buy an Emmons, perhaps you can help out.

As always the pedal steel beginner site is free, has no form of monetization and will stay that way. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding community who share their knowledge and expertise so freely and who go to such lengths to teach us.

Today the psgbeginner site was reorganized and updated. The following changes have been accomplished:

1. Lessons added. Over 300 steel guitar lessons.

2. Lessons have been divided into two lists, one for introduction, operation, and technique. The "how to play." The other consists of styles and music to play. The "what to play."

3. A 6-string steel list was added. This is a work in progress.

4. A list of pedal steel equipment videos has been started. Another work in progress.

These changes were necessary to allow room to grow the lesson list and deliver more information.

Thanks for authoring this website.

I’ll be using your chord charts in particular and also taking a look at the lessons. Technique and tone. Technique and tone.

Best,
Arch

You are welcome Arch. The Real thanks though, should be given to all those unselfish people (most are members of this forum) who took the time to produce so many valuable lessons. You got to love these people! Great community. I hope the site gives you a good start.

I just directed a beginner to this page. I had not checked it out since I started playing a few years ago, and all I can say is WOW!

What a fantastic job you have done, Dave Dube, organizing all that material. I just thought your effort deserved some renewed attention, given that there seems to be a bit of a surge in beginners posting on the forum lately.

Hats off!

Fred

Thanks so much for your kind words. They put a smile on my face.

My effort is nothing compared to all the time and effort of the many people (most--if not all--from this forum) who made such great content.

Nonetheless, you made my day Fred. Thanks.

Dave
