What modern Steel sounds closest to a ZB? Or is there one that does?

Kline. Unless by "modern" you mean in current production, in which case the answer would be "not Kline".

Closest I have seen in recent years was the Retro steel guitars built by forumite Kevin Hatton.. They looked like original ZB guitars, nice wood and finishes, and sounded very close as well, using modern up to date undercarriages.. I don't know if he still builds them, he might.. I was very close to having him build me one, but it was getting close to the end of my live performance days, and I never pulled the trigger, but I did a lot of research on them, and they really had the original ZB sound .
Other than that, I haven't heard many "modern" pedal steel guitars sound like a ZB.. A good player with a great ear can probably get close with modern electronics... bob
