When I started playing the steel guitar in 1948, I did it because my father wanted me to do this. He had been in WWII in the Navy and spent much time in Pearl Harbor and got to loving that Hawaiian Sound. When he came home he got me playing the "Electric Hawaiian Steel Guitar". He was very particular of what I played i.e., Hawaiian Music. I still do however, I prefer Traditional Country Music. I built a double neck 6 string just to play Hawaiian Music on.

Thanks for your story!
although I'm the opposite - I have played Traditional Country Music but would rather play Hawaiian Music on steel. |

The last couple of times my guitar slinging buddy and myself played a gig, we would up doing Hawaiian music.
I guess that's because that's what I cut my teeth on.

I guess we had better keep the Hawaiian music going guys. I tried playing a little today and I couldn’t get the clouds to move out so the sun could shine and, my wife refused to do the hula.
Thanks for the reply guys! |

Do you know how to do the hula?
You put on a grass skirt and rotate the crops. |

I think you are correct on that. I will just have to fly to Hawaii to check them out. I want to make sure I get a high quality grass skirt. |
