When I started playing the steel guitar in 1948, I did it because my father wanted me to do this. He had been in WWII in the Navy and spent much time in Pearl Harbor and got to loving that Hawaiian Sound. When he came home he got me playing the "Electric Hawaiian Steel Guitar". He was very particular of what I played i.e., Hawaiian Music. I still do however, I prefer Traditional Country Music. I built a double neck 6 string just to play Hawaiian Music on.

Played the Steel from 1948. Have had the opportunity to play a multitude of Military venues considering I spent over 32 years with the U.S. Army. Got to play in many foreign countries which was fantastic. Married to the same woman for more than 57 years. Have children, all of them served in the military. 7 Grandchildren. |

although I'm the opposite - I have played Traditional Country Music but would rather play Hawaiian Music on steel. |

The last couple of times my guitar slinging buddy and myself played a gig, we would up doing Hawaiian music.
I guess that's because that's what I cut my teeth on.

I guess we had better keep the Hawaiian music going guys. I tried playing a little today and I couldn’t get the clouds to move out so the sun could shine and, my wife refused to do the hula.
