I notice there were 100+ views to my post. Anyone planning to check out Popular Mechanics? I'm not a guitar builder so I don't know if the plan is any good or not??

Definitely unique. I like it. I re-purposed a similar old clarinet case as a harmonica case. Probably better suited for that.

Your harmonica case is pretty cool. I like it better than the guitar made from a clarinet case.
Everything right there where you need it. I'm just wondering if anyone will make a guitar from the PM article.

I believe it was back in the late '50s that Popular Electronics had an article on building a 1-string steel guitar. It used a large earphone (with the cover and diaphragm removed) for a pickup.
(Kind of a Carl and Jerry thing for those "in the know".) |

You’re right. I still have those plans. And some other musical plans from Science& Mechanics, mechanic Illustrated etc.
Never built any of them though.

You can make some great chords with this steel, but you have to be blistering fast!!! |

Actually, many years ago they had a build it article
for a 3 neck steel guitar including winding your own pickups. The construction used a couple of sheets of
3/4 inch plywood.
I've got a copy of that around here somewhere. |

I use clarinet cases to keep clarinets in. Perfect for the job. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!
