This is just a general thanks comment, to all of you.
At about two and a half weeks I can coax music out of my pedal steel, using mostly the A&B pedals and various string combinations (grabs). I played it at a VFW gig last Sunday night, kept the volume down, made a lot of mistakes, but made some music too. The club manager told me yesterday that it was music. People danced.
I can play simple versions on my E9 neck of most of the songs I used to play on my C6 lap steel. I play stuff in a 3 fret pocket plus pedals that took 7 frets on the lap steel,
This is like the first major station on a lifetime journey. Another jam tonight, with old friends who pretend they can't hear mistakes.
Those of you who have been answering my beginner questions all share credit for this, and I thank you,

Wow you are brave! I waited 6 months before doing my first gig. It was a horror movie for me, but in the end it was the songs that got hacked up and not me.
Congratulations, Jerry. It is a big step getting that first time out of the way. |

It was more fun than a poke in the eye with sharp cheddar from a barrel of naked monkeys in a strange place where there’s a clown on fire singing happy birthday. |

The gig this coming Friday is more important to me. I hope I can perform a simple part cleanly by then.
Complex & creative? I can't even see that from here.
