Starting to see a bit of a trend lately.
Road steelers with older steels. Faith's steel
player using a Pro~II Bud this morning on TV,
Montgomery Gentry's steeler with a 60's P/P etc.
Used to be vintage for the studio & new steels
for the road....so what's goin' on?

Jay.. I could be wrong, but I would say better technology... More and better steel technicians/engineers/ machinists, better parts and a better understanding of what can go wrong with steel guitar mechanisms..

If you can pay the freight, todays excellent steel guitar technical wizards can upgrade vintage steels to perform better than when they were first manufactured.. I truly believe that....

If money were NOT an issue, I would play nothing but painstakingly and perfectly restored OLD steels. .. The modern guitars are great, but the old guitars have the sound and looks IMHO..

Reliablity has been the strong point of modern steels... that may be changing as you have observed... but it'll cost ya' to get a 65 guitar to be as smooth and player friendly as an 05 guitar ... bob
