Mr. Ora Oubre (OOOO-BRAY)of Port Arthur Texas was inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame on May 17, 2008. Ora was inducted as a Steel Guitar player and a Bass player. Ora is a player (60 years), innovator, and builder of steel guitars. He has played with many of the major western swing bands in Texas and at festivals throughout the U.S. He plays an A6 tuning on a S-12 Pedalmaster at present. He has developed some unique pedal and lever combinations over the years. Ora was inducted along with Maurice Anderson and others.

Great news! What a fine player and a fine gentleman. Is he no longer playing one of his home-built steels? He showed me one of his changers that he had built, using only simple hand tools. It worked great. The keyhead on his guitar was unique. It's a 12 string guitar, but instead of two rows of 6 tuners, there were four rows of tuners, 4-2-2-4. That kept the strings all lined up nice and straight as they came over the tops of the rollers.

As I recall, his main tuning is A6, that could be changed to E9 with a lever. He also had some way of moving it into a B6 tuning.

Lee, Ora still plays his custom guitar that he has used for many years. Right now it is undergoing some repairs. A few years ago he and Roy Thomas customized an S-12 Pedalmaster to Ora's specifications regarding copedent, pedal and lever set-up. He has been using that guitar recently. I have some pictures of Ora behind the Pedalmaster that I will post when the Forum website is able to take the upload.

I also just found out a few weeks ago. Evidently he was in an assisted living facility after his wife passed. I lost contact with him. Called his phone several times but no answer. Miss him a bunch.
