According to one of the archived posts, Chuck Gillette sold this for $500. another person who owned it at one time was complaining about it. Be interesting to see what it sells for. _________________ Rose D13 tuning: Cabinet by J.R. Rose with mechanics engineered by Darvin Willhoite.

So will I, Bill. If I had the funds, it would be mine. I would love to have Ross at Sierra guitars go over it and fix any problems. Its a,piece if our history at a amazing price. I do not have the expertise nor the money to take it on. Wanted the forum to know about it. Nice Bigsby and from what I hear it is a good sounding and playing one too.
I'd think one of the collectors will soon own it.
That fellow playing it looks like a young Ronald Regan. _________________ Inlaid Star Guitar 2006 by Mark Giles. SD-10 4+5 in E9th; http://luthiersupply.com/instrument-gallery.html

I have fond memories of sitting in Chuck Gillete's studio in Tucson. I was 14 years old with a Fender 400. Chuck played that Bigsby through a fender Bassman. He convinced my parents I was playing too well to stick with that Fender so we went to Phoenix to the ZB factory and they had repossesed a D-11 with 10 pedals and 6 knee levers (another whole story)- I have it to this day. After he played all those strings and pedals on mine, he upgraded to a Sho-Bud and he did offer me the bigsby for $500.00. Wish I'd bought it then. It is one of the cherry bodied bigsby's. I have 2 - both maple and a heck of a lot more expensive! but Chuck played that guitar often with Merle Travis back in CA in the day. Hope it finds a good home! |
