Looking for information on selling hundreds of LP records.
I just found Reverb.com on the net.Does anyone know if this is a good place to sell my LPs? I also have a Fender D6 and a Kay steel that I will be selling later. I appreciate any information anyone can give me regarding Reverb' Thank you.

Take a look at Discogs.com for the records. It's a great database tool for keeping track of one's collection, but it also serves as a marketplace between users. |

I bought a number of pedals off Reverb.com and I never had a problem. Delivery was always fast. _________________ Four Pettingills and a Clinesmith Aluminum. Fender Blues Junior. Quilter Mini-101. |

Try selling the steels here first. I've sold items on ebay and reverb and they work fine but I've had the best luck selling steels here on the forum. You have a ready market for that specific item and bOb's recommended 3% is pretty cheap. Might work for the records too.
By the way, my Fender D6 took less than a week to sell here last year.
Edit: Oops, conventional donation amount is 2.5%, not 3% |

Wally:
I just realized a couple of days ago that Reverb had an LP selling capability.
I was immediately turned off by seeing some ridiculously high prices being asked for relatively common stuff.
$75 bucks asked for:
A Stetson label reissue of the Ernest Tubb "Daddy Of Em All" LP
A Stetson label reissue of an old Decca LP by the Wilburn brothers;
Stetson is a British reissue label from the 1980s.
$150 for "The Best of Jim Reeves" on RCA, which is probably the most common Reeves LP ever. Worse yet, it's a reissue, not the original RCA LP.
Just laughable.
Offhand, it looks like Reverb is only an intermediary. I don't think they have physical possession of the LPs offered.
Apparently the seller, not Reverb, sets the prices.
I seriously doubt that Reverb would reach the audience you need to reach. Fewer LP collector eyeballs at the site.
Ebay would reach many more people. I think I read recently that the total commission at Ebay is now over 10% when both Ebay and Paypal fees are considered.
Paypal nearly always sides with the buyer in disputes, so prepare for some agony if you use Paypal.

I've bought and sold on Reverb for several years and never knew LP's were sold there. I'd try somewhere else. In my experience LP's sell only if in superb condition and/or are collectors' items. Common stuff is garage sale fodder.
But - if you have a zero-point Reverb "rating" due to lack of previous transactions it can make it very difficult to get good pricing for your items. It's the same a shaving a "zero feedback" rating on eBay - it's hard to get buyers to bid on your itms. I wouldn't suggest selling on Reverb until you've built up a couple dozen rating points, at least. Buy a bunch of cheap items - anything to NOT have a zero rating - before you try selling.
I'd try selling lap steels here. I *buy* them really cheap on Reverb and eBay because there's a market glut that's driven prices down. Good steels are usually selling for FAR less than Vintage Price Guide prices on Reverb and eBay, but players here will pay fair prices for GOOD ones - meaning 100% stock, excellent condition instruments.
Reverb is a "venue" - sort of like eBay but it's not an auction site. They DO sell a few products, but just sideline things like a few accessories. All the "listed" items are sold by commercial and private sellers, _________________ No chops, but great tone

Reverb is JUST starting to sell LPs and, from what I can see, they're doing a lousy job.
For starters, the prices are waaay too high. Also--you can't sell lots. So, if you're not a basically a storefront... you get the picture.
And, look--folks typically ask waaay too much for lap steels that NEVER sell on Reverb. If you have steels to sell, sell them here. Suggest a reasonable price and accept offers. Sometimes, as is true when selling anything, you can't get your price.
I know ALL about that. But I've sold a few here for fair prices. Bought several here, too. I almost never buy on Reverb unless someone acccepts one of my crazy offers/
Good luck!

ive been a high end stereo equipment junkie for years.
there is a great site for stereo equipment called Audiogon.com
since Vinyl is back in favor they have a whole section dedicated to buying and selling.
it used to be free to sell - not sure if it is anymore but give it a look. |
