Heading off in the morning to play at the SWSGA show in Phoenix. Gonna be a great time. Super people, super players, great venue. Just great music and a great hang. Come if you can!

You're right, Wally, it is. I think of Mesa as a suburb of Phoenix. Not sure if the locals do too, or not... _________________ www.JimCohen.com

A fine time here indeed. Great spending time and chatting with you Jim. See you next year too. Best of luck with the Ronstat project. A worthy cause for sure. |

So many great players and some great surprises. Particular highlights for me were getting to hear, in their first-ever steel show performances, Christopher Woitach, Steve "Catt" Cattermole, and Paul Haaker. All three knocked it out of the park, in completely different ways, but each with excellent finesse and musicality. Other highlights were Doug Livingston's set which included a surprise rendition of Puccini's Nessun Dorma, with a guest operatic tenor singing the role made famous by Luciano Pavarotti! (I'm sorry I don't recall his name but perhaps someone can add it to this thread.). And I think we all sat quite transfixed listening to 14-year old Jacob King, after playing only a few years (3?), turn in a totally pro-level performance, with outstanding tone, control, taste and even band-leading skills. This young man is definitely one to watch as he will be a big part of the future of steel guitar. All in all, another great SWSGA show and I'm honored to have been part of it since it began 15 years ago. Many thanks to Troy, Peggy, Fred, Ray, John Hench, and all the others behind the scenes who work hard all year to make this an ongoing success. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

It's reassuring to see there are some great new faces picking up the torch, so to speak. With all due respect to the greats who have "Gone Home," time marches on.... |

Jim, The CD I bought at the Phoenix Show, was here when I got home. The only thing I regret after listening to this CD, is I’m sorry I missed your set on the show. When I hear guys like you, Tommy Dodd, Travis Toy, JD Maness, Chuck Back, and Mickey Adams play, I realize “The Truth†about my Steel playin’. Great Job Jim. |

Jim, you also hit it out of the park. I was sitting with Russ Hicks and Tommy Dodd and they were very complimentary of your playing. Way to go Doc Jim. _________________ Jim McGinnis |

Jim, Thank you for your kind words here and elsewhere. They mean a lot to someone who was so nervous doing his first show. Congrats to Steve, Christopher, Jacob, Doug Livingston, Travis, Jay Dee, Rick and all those who did such a great job performing. One of the best shows I've attended. You are truly a master on the Steel guitar and playing jazz. I think your 2-5-1 voicings on you tube is one of the best tutorials I've seen and for those of you who haven't here is a link.

And for those who missed him at the show in Phoenix here is a link to one of his performances. Great job Jim!

It sure did, Mickey! I sent you an email about it yesterday through the Forum's email link when I got back from the cruise. Wonder why it didn't arrive...
In any case, YES! and thank you so much for sending it. Much appreciated!

Jim, such a disappointing show for me this year. The Bronchitis caused me to miss so many great sets.
I had already scheduled so many that I wanted to be on hand for and couldn't make them.
I love the fact that on so many of the players that i've heard over the years the sets do change each and every show and I never know what to expect. It's always fresh and new.
I'll try to do better next year... _________________ Ray Harrison

Ray, like so many others, I was sorry to see you under the weather during the show. You are always a bright spot in the event and it was a shame that your allergies got the best of you this time. I trust you have taken a chainsaw to that tree in your back yard by now!!
Best wishes,
