I have been posting videos of rare instruments featured in my recent book, and I thought someone might want to check out this circa 1930 Regal Hawyofone Guitar. Cool looking, lightly built, all mahogany, ladder-braced, Hawaiian lap steel guitar with a floral decal on top and traditional rope binding. Fairly short 24 ¼†scale with surprisingly good tone. Body shape is somewhat like the more oft’ seen Regal Octofone only with an added upper bout.

Wow. Sweet sounding instrument. "Hawyofone" indeed.
I have a '20s Regal parlor guitar that sounds surprisingly big. Have been interested in learning more about Regal's output from that era. I'm aware of their affiliation with National/Dobro, not a whole lot more.
I'll have to look into your book, which I was previously unaware of. Effective marketing ploy. |

My book has a few pages on Regal, but if you want a lot of detail, I recommend a book called "Regal Musical Instruments 1895-1955" by Bob Carlin. It has over 300 pages of info on the history of Regal and the various models produced under the Regal brand, lots of nice photos and catalog references too. |

Thanks for the tip. I'd come across that one but forgotten about it; appreciate the recommendation.
Your book is very tempting; just have to convince the wife we need yet another giant book of stringed instrument porn to find room for in an overcrowded house. |

Yeah the book is a whopping 770 page hardback full of color photos so it definitely flatlines the postal scale. Just tell her it's a bargain by the pound!

Check out Celtic Cross Instruments web site and click on the vintage instrument section. There is one there. |
