Here is a great sounding 8 string dobro built in Louisiana by James Adams. It has a older passive Fishman pickup installed but it didn't sound that good to my ear. The tailpiece mounted Goldtone unit works really well. It is loud and has great tone. Finish shows some play wear and there is a large scratch on the back you can see in the pictures. It comes with a really high end Gator gig bag. Great deal at $700 plus $100 towards shipping.

Do you know how this guitar differs from how James builds his 6 strings? I have heard that 8 strings can overwhelm the sound capacity of some cones/bodies. Not sure if that is true. I'm guessing some cones and or bodies are a little larger to handle the capacity. Thanks for any information-- looks like a nice guitar. Dan

Dan,
I am not sure how James specs his 8 strings. I can tell you that this guitar is pretty hefty, heavier than my Beard E 6 string. Very solid and the sound is quite punchy. I have it in C6 tuning at the moment but I would ship it with a new set of Beard 8 G6 in the package.

Gary, is this the 8 string you use on the videos on your bands site? The one you use on All of Me? (nice playing by the way).

How does it the C6th sound on it? I have a beard MA-8 and was thinking of a second 8 string to leave in C6, but wasn't sure how it would sound on a dobro.

Thanks for the info — can you tell me what wood this guitar is made of. — is it solid or laminate? Perhaps how deep in inches the body is. Thanks. Dan

Bill,

Thanks, yes it is the same guitar as in our video. It sounds great in C6. I use it for the same purposes you are thinking of. The strings are a C6 stainless set but I think getting the individual string gauges in a bronze would sound even better.

It is a great guitar and I wouldn't be getting rid of it but Hurricane Irma repairs are high.

Dan,
I am not sure of the wood. The finish is black. I asume it would be a birch laminate. The body is 4.25 inches deep.
