| From what I've read, Ralph Mooney is credited with the high G# string on the E9th. I have no idea what year. |

Jeff Newman may have had something to do with the standard U12 tuning.

| Not to take anything away from arguably the best non-pedal player of all time, but the 6-string A, E, & C#m tunings most definitely predate Jerry Byrd. |

I don't remember where I got it, but back in the early 50's I had a tuning chart of 53 different non-pedal tunings. Most were only changed by one or two strings but called something different than the original.
I went through every one of them when "buds bounce" came out trying to figure out what he was doing!

Actually, that tuning was developed by Jan Visser and shown to Jeff by a friend who visited the US.

Just discovered Kayton Roberts. What a crazy great player. Maybe someone can tell me... I'm thinking his C6/A7 tuning is on his back neck correct? Thanks

| I asked Don Helms about his tunings just a few months before he died. He said the front neck was "E6" and the back was "B13". Some later research has revealed that his "B13" was actually more accurately a "B11" since no 6th tone (G#) appears in the open strings. He played the back neck several times that day, but mostly just single-note fills behind a singer (singing mostly Hank W. of course...). All of the signature licks were on the E6. |
