I've started to prep for jam sessions - coming up with the backing tracks I will use and not getting too far out of my comfort zone.
How am I doing? I still have no volume pedal (want to get a good one so saving $$$)

| I think you sound great although my critique is of little value since I have 2+ weeks before receiving my first guitar (sorry). Rest assured you’ve given one person a lot of encouragement! I appreciate your pilot training comparison regarding skill isolation. Don’t fly them but am an accomplished builder of VIP ac interiors for the incredibly rich (no $ just skilled). I will be watching your progress, comments from others and hopefully following not too far behind. Do you really only practice 1 hr/day? You are a brave man. Peace brother! |

it's excellent ! Playing is one thing, knowing what you are playing , where and why is the key that unlocks the whole beast .
Try playing in another root position and I don't mean an octave up. Go for the Gold

Nice clean pick attack. You seem to have a decent grip on the bits you're using.

Nice job. You might want to try using more of a "rolling" motion with your bar for vibrato and not so much of a "side to side" movement of your entire hand and bar. Keep your bar "centered" over the fret you are playing at and just rock it back and forth without moving it off the fret.
Jay Dee gave me that tip when I was just getting started back in the 70's.

Well, I think I'm doing ok, so far....I have been working from the Winnie Winston book. I understand how my a,b pedals change my chords, and also learned how to make my V chord with my D lever, lowering the E's.
I'm working on Shenendoah from that book now....for simple songs though, there is ALOT of foot and lever action, so its a slow process of working thru a few bars at a time, and playing with the cd, to try and get the sound, Also alot of string seperation in the picking...its definitely a challenge for me.
My hope is that by working from this book, in the fashion there trying to teach, I'm learning basic technique, and hopefully will start to see WHY I'm doing what I'm doing, to get the melodies...and the theory will fill in slowly.....
I definely got the Steel bug though....practice every day!!! Haven't plugged in my electric 6 string guitars in a few weeks...lol |

I'm working with the A pedal and relative minors - open to just A gives G to Em at the 3rd position... then A and B to get the 4th and then up a fret to get the 5th - classic chord progression.
For me, developing the peace of mind (AKA CPU cycles) to relax and experiment is the key - let off or press a pedal in the middle of something you already know and you'll add tools to your toolbox... |
