Thanks for posting, Mike. A friend of mine was totally hip to this guy when I barely knew who the Beatles were. RIP to one of the great characters in rock music. |

Godspeed Wayne.
I saw him and the CC Riders back in the 70's in Omaha.
Was exciting to even just hear the band let alone Wayne's show.
It is what it was.
Wayne had his own mojo.

Godfrey mentioned Omaha.
A few years ago I worked with a bass player that said that his band appeared with Wayne Cochran on a Midwest tour in the '70's which included Lincoln & Omaha.
My friend Dave said that Jaco Pastorious was the bass player for Wayne Cochran then. I have seen videos on YouTube confirming this.
As an aside, I got a call in 1979 to work with Wayne Cochran as a guitar player. I recall that I was basically going to have to be in Vegas to start working around Christmas. Having not been at home for Christmas in years, I passed. Soon after, I went off to study engineering in college.

When I was a kid, I was in a Saturday morning bowling league at Castaways Bowl in Cal City, IL. One dreary morning this guy with the big white hair and a full length white fur coat strolls in with a babe on each arm and heads for the lounge. Heck, I thought he was a wrestler, but he didn't look like the guys we had around here - Dick the Bruiser, or the Crusher, or even Yukon Moose Cholak. Then somebody yelled "Hey, that's Wayne Cochran!" Man, he was struttin' and when he got into that bar a few of us crowded the window opening where they sent the drinks out. One of the girls winked at us, and he gave us a little wave, then the bartender closed the shutters and that was that. Ask me about bowling there as a kid, and the first thing I remember is Wayne Cochran. |

Interesting. I never knew that Jaco worked with Wayne Cochran. In the early 70's I ended up going to school in Boston (Cambrige) MA. I paid my living expenses playing at local nightclubs in the area. I was doing a gig at The Hill Billy Ranch in Park Square and Wayne was at a club on Boylston or Tremont St (If memory serves correctly it was called the "Sugar Shack") We went over and caught the last half of his second show. WOW! This guy could entertain.... and his band was amazing!! I have never forgotten his band..... Had no idea that Jaco may have been the Bassist.
