Been playing some of the Vern Gosdin stuff with Jim Vess on steel. I have to tune my #10 B string down to a F# and bring it up with pedal #1 to get Jim's sound. Anybody out there got this on a pedal or KL? |

Billy, I've been having to tune the 10th string down for years. I wish I knew how to put it on a lever, but when you do drop the B string 5 tones, thats quite a drop and things start to get hairy. If anyone knows an alternative to tuning down, I'd like to know also. Thanks, Eddie |

Hey Eddie, Mike Headrick (super Picker) who's got some great CD's and tracks out now uses a SD-10 on which he's dropped the 9th string D, moved his B up to the 9th slot and added a low G# note which he drops to an F# and really gets some cool things going on the lower registers. Check out his tribute CD to Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons called "Steels on Wheels" and you'll hear some of the moves he does....JH in Va. |
