It may be bad form but I'm more in control when I can very lightly rest my forearm on something.
I don't sit further back from the guitar to play C6 on my D-10 and I have no problem. I have to assume I've become used to playing the back neck without support.
My Zum Encore was ordered without a 'pad' but, after a couple of years, I had Doug send me one. I'm glad I did. I'm more at home on that guitar now.
PS: My JCH is an SD-10 - I wanted a JCH whatever form in came in but I couldn't be happier with it. No plans now for another SD (maybe another D-10, but that's another story) but that would be my choice. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!

The S-10 is a good choice for me based on weight and size considerations when transporting. I also keep a D-10 set up for practice and work on both necks. |

I actually just bought an SD-12. I like the double body, and find it more comfortable. Now to get used to the extra 2 strings. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . S-10. Address your guitar properly, with good posture, and you don't need to reach across empty space to play it. _________________ Dr. Z Surgical Steel amp, amazing!

An SD10 will bring the knee levers back a bit. I really like my SD10 PP. |

I would like an S10 Emmons P/P or LeGrande. Size and weight would br the main consideration. I play in three bands and only use C6 rarely. |

Whatever you play you will adjust to. I don't think it matters. I've had both and I liked both. You can have "proper posture" and approach on either.
I prefer an SD-10 because I like the extra mass. I find this makes the guitar more stable and less likely to move around while I'm playing it. |

I'm a newbie with an Encore so my opinion isn't backed up by much expereince but I said S10. I love the light weight when taking it around though. No extra weight please.
I do like the pad though!
I wonder what the poll results would be if you asked spcifically which choice for a guitar that was going to be taken to gigs and such? |

I'm a pretty big guy and I just can't get comfortable behind a single neck guitar. I always played D10s until about a year ago when I got an SD10 Emmons P/P, and I really like it. It doesn't really feel any different than my D10s. _________________ Darvin Willhoite

The best s/10 guitars you can find that has plenty of room underneath is the Sierra crown. The legs are further apart and have the space of a d/10. Only my opinion....jack |

I have 2 Emmons SD 10 PP's. I prefer the SD 10's over a S 10 as they have more of the D 10 feel.
I can switch from one of my D 10's to a SD 10 and feel right at home.
I'm also a pretty big guy and a S 10 just feels "small" to me. _________________ Zum SD 10 Hybrid, Zum D 10 Hybrid, Emmons SD 10 P.P.

SD-10. I have a D-10 and my wife has an S-10. Should have got an SD-10 as it seems to allow better control of the right hand. She does much better on my D-10 than she does with her S-10.
However, you can't let the guitar "play you". Play whatever you have. |

I prefer an SD10 for comfort and lever placement, but I have played a lot of S10s that sound great. One of the best sounding steels that I have ever played (out of many hundreds) was a ZB student model. Also played an S10 Emmons push pull that sounded incredible. For those players who are happy with the ergonomics of an S10, I would say that they are well worth consideration. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. I play D-10 guitars primarily, but I do have 2 Emmons PP S-10s (one each in E9 and C6) for the weight and convenience factor on jobs that only require one neck.
I don't have any problem with supporting my arms because I play so much C6 I'm used to that feel. What problem I do have with S-10 guitars is the angle of the volume pedal vis a' vis my ankle.
My gigging D-10 volume pedals, Telonics and Goodrich, have brackets that attach to the pedal rack, and these brackets position the pedal in a fixed position from the rack. On an S-10, sitting closer to the volume pedal puts my ankle in a too extended "up" position when trying to keep the volume backed off, so I have to use a volume pedal without the attachment bracket to allow a different floor position for the pedal. I have two pedals like that just for the purpose of S-10 playing. I also have to sit slightly further back from the guitar on an S-10 than I would on a double neck. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

I like S10's because they are a little bit smaller and lighter. I mostly play D10's but for airplanes I need to go as small and light as possible.
Overall there is not much difference between an SD10 and an S10 as far as I'm concerned. As long as I can get a decent sound and be comfortable enough to play in tune I'm fine with whatever. _________________ Bob |

Well, some of what I’m reading here is really resonating with me...
You folks are REALLY having an impact on my, shortly to be made decision.
Some of what Herb has said has really struck a Chord 🎶 ... ever since I broke my right ankle I tend to want the pedal further to my right and at times clear outside of the legs, just to relieve some of that angle Herb spoke about.
What I’m picking up on from what I’m reading, is that if you’re playing out all the time or flying with your guitar and only need a single neck, then the lighter weight may become a bigger consideration.
If you don’t need to move a guitar a lot, then the SD-10 is probably the more comfortable of the two.
Not sure why this is playing with my head so much... Good thing I’ve never been accused of OVER thinking something. _________________ Dale Rottacker, Steelinatune™
