At the completion of a recent deal UPS dropped the steel that they were handling and cracked the endplate. I was wondering if anyone custom makes endplates, or knows anyone who might have one that would fit a Speedy West Marlen.
Thanks, Duncan |

Was that my old Marlen, man that's sad.. UPS strikes again, I'll never ship with them again. Good luck, you may have to find one off of another Marlen. |

I don't know how bad, or where the crack is, but here's something to keep in mind...getting a new one machined (unless you have an "in" with a machine-shop, somewhere) would probably take a week or two and cost a couple hundred. Repairing the old one (by welding and hand grinding) would be faster and far cheaper. |

Duncan.. Man, I feel bad for you...I would be red faced with fury if this happened to me. I imagine you had shipping insurance.. any word on that yet??..
I agree with Donny.. A good fabricator can weld, grind ,and polish that endplate to look almost new, unless its all busted to pieces.
Thats what I would check out first, before trying to have a machine shop tool up to make a new one. Big bucks.. I wish you the best and I hope you can collect from UPS... I heard they like to play hardball with damage claims.. Good luck!! bob |

Duncan..I hate to be the bearer of bad news but after 32+ years of toolmaking , that endplate is beyond repair. Too much surface distorsion. You go trying to grind and weld on that soft cast material and it will twist on you. I can make you a replacement but I would need the old one to pattern by. Coop |

To everyone who responded...Your help has been gratefully received. UPS is supposed to inspect the steel today, and yes I had full insurance. I'll keep you all posted as to how it works out. Right now the gentleman who has it, and me too want to see if we can have it fixed. UPS seems very happy to try and fix it.
Thanks Again, Duncan |
