Sounds like Johnny Rodriguez to me.

I believe Pete Drake played steel on most of his sessions.

If you haven't already - check out the two LP's "Introducing Johnny Rodriquez" and ""Ridin' My Thumb To Mexico." Some of the finest singing, songwriting and pickin' of the 70's and one of the first C&W LP's I ever saw where the listed they musicians on the back of the LP. These two records have the "A" team including Gimble & Spicher and Pete Drake & Goldie.

(If you want to play some big fat Pete Drake intros - these records are for you)
