John Coltrane's "Naima" with Carl Grubbs (alto saxophone) and myself; also, some interesting times with my one-string capo. Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a pretty song. I hope you enjoy the music.

Hi Susan. We must be thinking along the same lines. I am in a 4 piece jazz group here in Providence (so far, rehearsals only) and last week brought in my little arrangement of Naima!

I figured it would lay nicely on steel, with its major 7s, but had to find out positions for the bridge!

Anyway, I have been listening to ska lately and put it into an easy ska beat. I was nervous, but the guys liked it.

And congratulations on your recent successes and collaborations. You are extending steel into new territory . . . which is good!

Susan,
Your lovely and challenging musical posts always compel me to check out some of the other work of your collaborators. Interesting to discover that Carl Grubbs' cousin was Naima.

One of Coltrane's many masterpieces. Susan, you are an inspiration to so many of us that want to take this instrument to new places.

Good rapport between you and Carl Grubbs, & great to hear your approach to Coltrane. I hope we hear more. Thanks.
