I am having trouble getting my 1/2 stop adjusted on my Carter D-10.I'm talking about the Eb"2nd string on the E9th neck".After tuning the string open I then tune the RKR that drops it to C#......so far so good, When I try to tune the 1/2 stop nut,the one that sits in the cut out area of the endplate nothing happens for a while I'm talkin 5 turns in either direction or more, then all of a sudden it kicks in sort of.I have a friend of mine helping me with this,He's better at mechanical things than I am.So far no luck. There doesn't seem to be any parts broken??

hope I don't sound demeaning. The Carter half-stop is perhaps the simplest mechanical mechanism on the guitar so there's not much that can go wrong. It simply adds the extra tension of a 'dummy' finger and spring. All you want to do is set it, via the nylon tuning nut and the appropriate bellcrank and changer holes so that it engages at the proper 'half-stop' moment. The only problems I can picture would be stripped threading in the nylon tuner or a slipping rod, not adequately tightened down on the bellcrank. Close observation of the undersides should reveal the problem.

Tune that half stop while it's upside down and see what's going on under there. It's simple and for my money the best out there.
