| How many of us play without shoes? I play in my white tube socks. Sometimes a shoe on the right but never the left. It has always been a conversation piece. I know people that will come up to me and say, "You are the guy that plays bare foot"!! Interesting topic!!! |

I've been doing it for 35 years; onstage & off. I wear black socks so it's not noticeable. When I DO play in shoes, it's always sneakers. Never wear boots onstage.

I have played in socks or very thin light deer hide sole moccasins for 41 years.. Simply cannot play in shoes... bob

I would love to able to go to the guitar with nothing on my feet, but they are way too sensitive 
I'm one of those who can't walk on a shingle beach, only sand

| I never could pedal in socks. Always had to have shoes. More so now that I have peripheral nerve damage (neuropathy from chemo). I can wear any type of shoes, not limited like some. |

| When I first started I played with no shoes. I dont anymore. It just takes time to get used to shoes , especially when you get new shoes. |

My feet are too sensitive I guess. I prefer my Nike's or a pair of soft loafers. Tried, no go!

Cowboy boots or tennis shoes for me. Although, I do occasionally play a little if I am just passing my guitar. I don't have good control of my pedals and it starts to hurt. But, to each his own.

| I used to play in socks, and couldn't play in shoes. I learned that way because I had a guitar that was too short for me to play with shoes on... then it became a habit. I played a run of gigs at a New York club, where the stage was often soaked with spilled beer, and god knows what else, which made the decision to make a commitment to shoes a whole lot easier. For a long time I was really picky about shoes, and could only play in certain types. I overcame that by having several pairs of different shoes in the practice room, and used different ones at random I can play in anything now. |

Yeah; I transitioned from boots to tennis shoes to Vans to moccasins; then showed up to a gig without any of them and ended up playing in my socks and it was the most pleasurable situation in feeling the pedals actually pulling the strings...what a connection that was; and been playing like that now for 10 years-ish(yes I do play wide waffle Sho~Bud pedals; as narrow and sharp feeling pedals would hurt..ha.).
Only person I ever knew that ONLY played in socks was Dicky Overbey.

Don't get me wrong, I really do like to play in socks, and especially on the Wide Sho~Bud pedals... Ricky knows the ones I'm talking about....
But I'm glad that I have the choice not to ,on a stage awash in stale beer, and the gore left over from a human sacrifice performed onstage by the opening act  |

| Hey Ricky, I play Sho Buds with the narrow pedals. (Super Pro). I added return springs to the changer. I have a Mullen Discovery that I added the bracket and return springs on it also. Mike set me up with them. I called him and told him I was a barefoot player and he told me, "I can fix your problem". Two days latter they were in my mail box. 35 years playing barefoot. I can feel the strings when they pull. I tried shoes years ago. Could not feel what I wanted to. |

| I had a similar experience as Ricky Davis. Started in big shoes worked down to moccasins and eventually tried socks and loved it. I've tried switching back to shoes even giving it a few weeks but there really is something about feeling the pedal move the string, as Ricky said that rings true for me as well. The only time it's been a problem is playing early spring or late fall outdoor gigs where my feet have been freezing making it an unpleasant experience. |

EXACTLY!! I'm right there with you Rich, I've tried playing in different kinds of shoes, but I always go back to playing with my left shoe or boot off, with the black sock, of course. |

Whenever possible, it's socks only.  However, if the venue requires shoes or boots, I'm ok with that too. |

| I use two socks on my left foot. When it is cold out, no problem. I bring a heating pad with me and put it under my left foot. Plugs into the power strip on my Walker Seat. I live in Michigan and have played in mid November in CarHarts!!! |

I love to play barefoot. 81 Zum 8 x 7. I just don't get how it hurts the feet at all. It gives one a sense of touch and feel. I kick my shoes off and play in socks if I go out. BUT it is a lot warmer in my part of the world for most of the year.
