Alien technology?
Maybe...
According to the folks at Zylia (zeye-lee-ya) using their single multi capsule mic and their software can record an entire band off the one mic and then separate the tracks of instruments to be mixed later. This way you capture a live performance and can turn the performance into a multi-track session.
Zylia is in funding stage but it appears they've got the working model down enough to seek investors.

Maybe I could've posted this in the recording section... _________________ ShoBud The Pro 1

Godfrey,
I checked it out and it all sounds very interesting.
I hate to be so negative but usually if it sounds too good to be true, it is. ![Whoa!](images/smiles/icon_omg.gif) |

The rather old concept of cramping multiple directional microphones into a central sphere, may return and its use be simplified quite a bit by the presented solution. |

As with many inventions the ones who perfect it get the credit. _________________ ShoBud The Pro 1

As was brought out in the interview, it may work for a Bluegrass band. I don't think it would work trying to mike guitar amps, steel amps, etc and singer at the same time. The mic's may be directional but there is still feed over that will get in other channels. I'm working on an on-site recording right now (3 hour show) that everything was miked with SM57's but there is still some bleedover into other channels that I can't get out in the mixdown. |
