I would appreciate any relevant info.
I have an appointment with a specialist with a view to replacement surgery on My left knee.
How long before I can play pedal steel after the operation and how long before I can safely carry My steel(approximately 55 lbs)
Best regards

I am sure everyone's heal time is different. I had knee replacement (right one) almost a year ago. I couldn't play at all for about 8 weeks. Fortunately, I could do pretty well, because I don't do much with the right levers as much as the left ones, so it will probably be a little tougher for you since your looking at getting your left done. As for carrying it, it was rough for a few weeks more. Good luck. _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 3 & 5 The Eagle

It took me about three weeks before I was comfortable under the guitar. I had my right knee done. Toting it around was about a month. I might add here that my case has wheels so it was just a matter of the lifting it in and out of my truck. One more thing here is that that new knee is actually your best knee. Don't baby it so much that you stress out the other one. That's what I did and now it is bad. Also do your therapy prior to the surgery as it really makes a difference. |

Thanks for the advice Craig.
I do not yet have a date for the operation, depends how needy the consultant thinks I am and then where I should be on the waiting list

I had a total replacement of my right knee 8 ears ago. I did ALL the rehab, which Medicare paid for. I have NO pain, and it doesn't affect my pedal steel playing at all. I limped along for 9 years, and my knee hurt all the time. Do it! _________________ Jack Aldrich

That's "years". I didn't play pedal steel for about 12 weeks, just lap steel, dobro and keyboards. _________________ Jack Aldrich
