Nice BOEN D-10. Mid 80s. 8&4 with all the parts for LKV except for rods and nylon tuners. 3 raise, 3 lower. Walnut mica. A couple of the C6 nylon tuners are loose and need replacing.
Jim Boen bought parts from MSA and built these guitars. Identical to MSA from the same era in the eighties. Plays like an MSA. Sounds like an MSA.

I rodded guitars for Jim. I may have rodded this one. Nice guitars. I really like the "Pittsburg Steelers" fret markers that Lee Roy Prine came up with. He and Boen were partners when they purchased the MSA parts and it was a Pedalmaster brand until Jimmy bought Lee Roy's interest and changed the brand to Boen. I lived one block from the Pedalmaster shop. I also rodded on Pedalmasters.

Sorry for the typo which I have corrected. I called the parts MCA instead of MSA. It is an MSA with Boen name tag. Boen and Prine didn't just buy parts, they bought the whole inventory including the neat pick-up winder. Jim Lindsey was at Boen a year or so and might have rodded it. Sorry for jumping into this post but it brings back so many great memories and I feel excitement toward these guitars. The Boen shop is where I met Jim Lindsey. He was a great player even back then. We had a few fun jams at my home. Let me say this is a bargain on a very well built quality guitar and I will try to refrain from any more history refections. I would love to own this guitar but I have to stop somewhere. Bill, if you wish I could send you some MSA tuners or could send them to the new owner of the guitar.

Wow, this guitar brings back some memories! Definitely was made either while (or after) I was building with Boen (I was there when we went from wood to metal necks, changed the name from Pedalmaster to Boen, and started using colored fretboards instead of simple white on black). Whether made while I was with Boen, or after I left, I don't know. I was with Boen for just over two years. During my time with Jim, we built several black guitars and two or three woodgrain models. This could be one of those.
Bill, I'll have to talk with my nephew about it to see if he can help money-wise, but I'm tempted to try and go for this guitar myself. I've been needing a guitar I can re-rod into a "rehab" guitar so I can start playing again (haven't played actively since my stroke).
Jerry, it's good to see you here! Yes, we did have some great times.

Jim, I wondered when you would chime in on this. Brings back so many memories. I sure hope you can fully recover and get back to playing. You are such a great player. It would be so neat if you could wind up with this guitar. The Boen guitars could hold their on with any.

| My what memories. I played Boen guitars for several years. Jimmy and I traded back and forth somewhat extensively. I had a black D10, a S12 universal (the only one he built as far as I know), and several others. I still have the Boen sticker on my pac-a-seat that Jimmy stuck on it. Great guitars. |

Well, since I'm selling this to help pay off massive debt from more than a year's worth of cancer treatment and not being able to work during, you certainly could pay more if you so choose.
As for finish, I think it's walnut, but it very well could be some version of rosewood. |
