I was just thinking about if there was another note besides the high G or the D that would be effective on the C6th. I've used the G & D back and forth through the years.

If I'm not mistaking, Weldon Myrick tunes his first string to D#.

Don´t mean to brag but we Universal players just hit a knee lever or in some cases an optional lock lever and we have C6 with G, D, AND A on top.

If you don't have a knee lever that raise 3rd string C-C# a C# note instead of the "D" on the 1st string could be quite useful for certain things.

Not parting with the G or D on top. Just looking for some new ideas to work with. I'm always trying a little something here and there. I like to have at three different ways to play each song. Thanks.

Bobby Black uses a B and a D on his non-pedal guitars:
  D

B
E
C
A
G
E
C#
Some 12 string C6th players use B and D too. Not me.

The late great Curly Chalker used an E on his first string and his C6th playing was about as good as you could get. He also had a low A on the 10th string so he didn't have to use a Boo-Wah type thing to get that note. Curly was a master of this and I hope we don't forget him....JH in Va.

HI Billy, check out my tuning when you visit with us on the 4th of June here at DSSGA in Gulfport, I have been using an A note on top of the tuning for many, many years. And being a universal tuning, this note is a G# as my first string on the E9 tuning. In the B tuning, it becomes an A note on the first fret. Looking forward to your program with us on the fourth.

Anybody ever considered an (F) on top? Not me! Except on a 10-string C-Diatonic Tuning: C–E–F–G–A–B–C–E–D–F
