I scored a 1979 Session 400. It has colored knobs a BW and wheels. Really nice amp.

The mids are "Mid" and "Shift." The knobs both go 1-10. I know the best method is to turn them till it sounds good...I have done so.

What is the actual point of the markings without knowing the hz of the shift, or the cut/boost? Or am I thinking wrongly about this...is it not parametric?

Tremendous amp, though!!

It's somewhat parametric.
It seems to roughly correspond to the later Peavey labeling, but only roughly. It seems to sound best when mid and shift are mirror images of each other; as in one at ten o'clock and the other at 2

I see several folks talking about the old Session 400. Maybe it's time to bump this up just for the link I found and put in the second post.

Very nice talk about the EQ on the 400
