Who played steel for the amazing rythem aces? In particular the beautiful steel solo in the song amazing grace ( used to be her favorite song)? _________________ fessenden d10,nashville 112,nashville 1000,peavey session 500,transtubefex,goodrich steeldriver 111,Gibson hound dog dobro,Appalacian resonator guitar.Marshall AS50D acoustic amp,Fishman Jerry Douglas imaging pedal. |

That was my late friend Barry"Byrd"Burton...
Many, many sessions together...I followed him in the Dolly band...
He loaned me an SD-10 Legrande for YEARS...
An avid pilot and a great recording engineer as well as a very gifted guitar player...
Byrd played electric gtr on"Third Rate Romance"and"The End is Not in Sight"...
Miss him all the time.

That is one of the best country songs ever written, played, and sung.. So pure.. the steel work sent shivers down my spine as a 22 year old steel player, and still as a 63 year old player.
I posted about it once here years ago, and the steel work was derided by several as being out of tune, or amateurish, or some other nonsensical bullshit.
It was perfect to my ear, back then and still today.. The tune still sounds fresh..
I play the solo all the time, just by myself, loud and proud.. It was a great bit of steel work, and it caught my ear over 4 decades ago, and still inspires me... bob

The guitar stretch in "Third Rate Romance" has always been dear to me. _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |

It's a nice "through the years" montage. |
