| Hello you electronics buff's, I have an issue where I bought one of those keyboard amps to use not for steel, but it is a multi purpose amp, but it kept distorting on me, so I took it apart and found it has only a 100 watt power amp inside, but it is connected to a pre-amp that is pretty good, the power amp is not powerful enough to work it, this amp is supposed to be rated 600 watts, I think the factory put in wrong power amp block, can I get a power amp of 600 watts and install it inside, I will have to get a power supply as well unless the original could be used, or can I at least update this amp to be 500 watts? any input would be suggested this amp is the Behringer amp. |

Is this the KDX12 or similar? The problem with some Behringer gear is that they don't tell you how they calculated the spec. It might very well be 600W based on some convoluted math. The KDX12 is a biamped unit so if that is what you have dig around for a second amp on the chassis and check that spec.
Can't comment on the rest.

Behringer footnotes show 600 W as maximum output. This may be a peak power rating as they don't list RMS value.
Other info denotes power amp split in two sections for bi-amping...which may be over my electronics head.
Online reviews are the same as your findings with one user estimating 150W max. |

I plan to build a new power amp for the Behringer KDX15
It will be rated at 600 watts, the only thing I like is the cabinet design on Behringer, if you guys have any circuit designs send them to me, I would appreciate it, or give me a website for a good power amp with power supply. |

BTW..It's entirely possible that something is over driving the front end of that amp. Nothing to do with the power section.
Worth checking out.

RMS, Root mean square, is the standard for determining and comparing the power output of amps. This is a measurement of continuous power available. Peak or max power is a transient measurement reflecting the highest transient output an amplifer can handle without damage. Many cheap/off brand builders use the max/peak measurement hoping the average consumer will not know the difference. The end result is that most cheap amps using the max/peak rating will disappoint when you need power and head room.

Also thinking out loud. It's virtually certain that Behringer has matched the power supply to the power amp output.
If the goal is to run at 600W RMS, 100% duty cycle I'd bet a dollar that the existing supply won't come close to handling it.
