Jerry Byrd introduces Jeannie Seely, but there's clearly a pedal steel master behind her on this tune. Is it Buddy Emmons?

Beautiful!

There's another video of Jeannie on the same show singing Mr. Record man, and Buddy is featured VERY prominently. Literally right out in front. I would bet money that it's him. That is absolutely magical.

No doubt it's Emmons. No other steeler had the flow Buddy had in is playing. He stood head and shoulders above the rest of pack in the early days. Arguably, If not forever.

Edited to include this link. Enjoy.

Interesting tid bit to me at least. I noticed Buddy's playing and Emmons pedal set-up and lowering his E's on the LKL. This was a little before my time and may have been common back then? Since there's more work for the builders to rig a lever that moves to the right.

Thank you, B0b. That's so cool. Buddy and Jerry must have had a super time of it when they went to Japan together. (And Scotty went too :0)).

Very deep and extremely smooth reverb on the steel. Not sure if the studio added some reverb or if it's just the amp reverb. My original Webb amp that same long tail super smooth reverb that adds so much sustain on slow songs. The steel does sound sound so much better when it's allowed to be heard without a bunch of other instruments beating against it.

That's a great version of Don't Touch Me.. I'm reminded of this version by Christine Mims. The steel is very reminiscent of the Jeannie Seely version, with the big reverb. According to the notes, that's either Tommy Detamore or Randy Reinhard on steel, recorded in Floresville, Tx. I'm thinking Randy, but I could be wrong. Smile Whoever it is, they knocked it out of the park.

I'm going to say Randy on this cut. Not that Tommy couldn't play it just as well.
