This is ZB #0639 that I own. I thought you guys might enjoy seeing it. It was built for Bill Simms, to take to trade shows, in the 70's....or so I have been told. It spent 20 years under Bill's bed without seeing any daylight. Lots of hand tooling on all the aluminum. Carved wood. Engine turned legs, knee levers and undercarriage parts.

Eric Dahlhoff... it's hard to get a good picture of the under carriage with it set up. Here is a shot showing the engine turning on the knee levers and a better shot of the tuning heads. Notice, whoever did the hand engraving, even engraved inside the tuning heads.

This is my Rus-Ler, bought new in 1976. Its hard to see in the picture, but, all the metal parts are jeweled or engine turned. I thought it was the most beautiful steel I'd ever seen when I bought it. But, your ZB beats it, hands down!

I wonder if Russ"H.V."Russell had a hand in building that ZB. He was working for ZB at the time which was just before he started building the Rus-lers. I really like the jewel machining he did on his guitars as well as the pin striping done by "Butchr". He said they would stand out more on TV. That ZB is a beauty!

Hey Kermit, I remember this beautiful ZB guitar. I often wandered where it was. I remember seeing this guitar for the first time at Scottys ISGC in 1976. It was on display at the ZB booth for several years afterwards also. As a young teenager, just learning about this addictive instrument, I thought this guitar was the "Holy Grail" of steel guitars. Very beautiful and awesome craftsmanship. Thank you for showing it off.

Dan,

So great to hear from someone that actually saw this guitar at the show! Thanks for posting your memory of it!

Here are a couple more pictures showing the other end.
