Having a nostalgic day again. These days seem to come more frequently as I get older. 
My Favorite Professional Steel Guitar Player: Don Helms 1927-2008.
My favorite professional steel guitar player, in the late 1940's and early 1950's, was Don Helms. Don
became a MEMBER OF THE STEEL GUITAR HALL OF FAME in 1984. Since we did not have TV, I could
only listen to him on the radio.
In later years I had the opportunity and pleasure to visit in Don's home several times, where we played
our Gibson Console Grandes (our Console Grandes were identical), and had discussions regarding steel
guitar, and Don's professional career. A great steel player and man.

Lulu Belle and Scotty Sing. That was WLS National Barn Dance..

As far as a current non pedal player, and I'm not just saying it because he's a member here, but I really like Doug Beaumier's style. Mike Neer also does some very nice stuff.
Current pedal steel, I'd be hard pressed to pick an absolute favorite but Paul Franklin would certainly be in the running. I also like Sarah Jory, although I'm not sure how much she is playing currently.
Oldies? Of course Jerry and Don Helms.

| Bobby White and PeeWee Whitewing, have loved these two guys sincve early fifties,I never get tired of that Brazos Valley western swing sound, of course Hank Thompson was my Idol since mid forties, that man had the smoothest voice,and loved their stage apearences with the Nudi suits.R I P Hank and BOBBY. |

I don't have favourites. I like all those mentioned so far and I would add to the list Jeff Au Hoy, Isaac Akuna and Chuck Lettes.
PS Did anyone mention Hal Aloma?
