If anyone knows of a Roberts Tiny Moore model five string, two pickup mandolin, that might be for sale, I'm looking for one. Here's what one looks like.

Tiny Moore's original 5 string mandolin was built for him by Paul Bigsby. There were only two built by Bigsby.
Tiny Moore had a music store in Sacramento and he sold copies of the Bigsby mandolin. The copies were built by Jay Roberts of Yuba City, CA.
I see the "R" on the tail piece on the above mandolin so this is one of the copies. |

Hi Erv,
Thanks for the info on Tiny's five string Bigsby. I know the person who now owns it. A real piece of history for sure. I have my sights set on a Roberts which is still pretty cool. If I can't find one at a reasonable price, I may need to go with a four string A model Gibson strung a fourth lower - just like Johnny Gamble's 😎 |

| T.C...You may want to check the website for 'Elderly Instruments' from time to time. Since the demise of 'Mandolin Bros.' in Staten Island, N.Y. they are the most likely dealer that I am aware of who may have one (FYI: viewed their website yesterday, did not notice any listed). |

| Thanks David and Erv. Of course, I want a nice vintage mando but that new Fender looks pretty cool! BTW, in a previous post, dang autocorrect on my phone changed Johnny Gimble's last name to Gamble...especially embarrassing because I played with Johnny in the late 70's. Doh! |

I had Charlie Hoffman (guitar builder in MPLS) make this into an electric mando many years back. It was originally a mini guitar but I had the neck made for a 5 string electric. Inlaid headstock "End of the Trail"
