Isn't that one of those "kit" guitars that was marketed back in the mid-1970's?

Lee,
I really don't know. What I do know is that the dude told me it is possibly 20 or 25 years old.
And never been played.

Ron,
that is a Market-Rite Mark I Thinline, a student guitar with a Sho-Bud Maverick type undercarriage (pull/release one-piece solid fingers for single raise OR single lower). 3 Emmons pedals, i spring-loaded LKR, lowering 8 E-D# and 2 D#-D.
As Lee said, it was sold as a kit in the seventies. The manufacturer was in Comins, Michigan. I got mine in 1978 from Musicians' Supply in California for 149.00 US$. Market-Rite also made a Mark II, a pro S-10 with 3+2 (maybe 4 knees?), and a Mark III, a pro D-10 with 8+2 (possibly 4 knees?)
Mine wouldn't stay in tune, ate 3rd strings like there was no tomorrow, wobbled when the lever was pushed, but at least it had a real crappy sound.
Might make an excellent flower bed.

Yikes... my good friend Ron.. I do believe our buddy Rainer is correct.. That does look like a Market-Rite kit guitar...holes pre drilled etc.
They used to sell them in the classified pages in Guitar Player magazine about 25 years ago ... the word that keeps popping up in my head is "dreadful"... I have seen a few and they,, they.. well.. they're not good..A contact paper Maverick is a much better guitar.. Who knows, maybe this will be a "good" one and will be playable.
I hope so!!... anyway, it is a pedal steel and you can always swap it for something or other worth $250... I don't think you will lose if you decide its something you would rather not keep... I hope she works for you!!! bob |

Ron, Mark I also produced the infamous Synsonics guitar, reputed to be made of pressed paper. Now, I don't know, but I saw another Mark I somebody got at a flea market. Seems it sold for over $300. Caveat emptor. I would buy it, because I can't play pedal steel and would use it for a console. You--I don't know. Might trade it for a BB gun and a pup tent. (How my dad got his first Model T.) |

Ron, did you take that baby straight to eBay?
Market-Rite No. 1
Incidentally, there is another one on eBay presently: Market-Rite No. 2
Must be "Market-Rite Week" over at the auction house.

Only ever had one Market Rite pass through here, it was untunable, string breaking son of a gun, wobbled & in general just a piece of junk, not worth $25 let alone $250!!
Of course this is only my opinion, I am sure someone out there has one that works real good?? [Ha Ha]

Don't want nothing to do with such a steel.
Thanks guys for the warning.
I took my family out to diner from that money.hah
