Can anyone please tell me why my high E string feels like it has bumps on it. I wouldn't say it's sticky, it just does not feel smooth. The puzzling thing to me is, it doesn't seem to be that way all the time? I have wiped the string down with a cloth, paper towel, etc and also the tone bar, but I still feel it. Any answers would be appreciated. I am totally a new wanna be player.

Dirt/Corrosion

Clean it or replace it. Up to you.

Try wiping each string individually.

If it still feels bumpy may be corrosion/or just badly made.

Not quite sure I understand the symptom but a few years back I went through a phase where unwound strings felt like they were "scrapey", similar to when one hears a player's fingers moving on acoustic guitars on a recording.

After a short while whatever it was went away. The only conscious change I made was to press down a little more with the tone-bar and learnt that applying pressure is no bad thing once you get comfortable with it.

Hope this helps!
