I've been meaning to ask, what is that red "goop" that looks like melted butter or something? What is that finish that looks so uneven and lumpy?
I've never seen anything like that on a guitar before...
And yes, I'll chip in a little. At present, my business is undergoing a state audit, but what the heck..it's for the steeler brotherhood... _________________ Sierra Crown D-10 |

That red goop is highly thick paint of some kind, no one really knows except the previous owner I suppose. I will all be striped off which will be a ton of work and patience. I am debating at this time rather to pull the mica off and start over. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

Hey John, no heat gun is gonna do it buddy. Been there already. This is going to be serious striper and sanding on the underside. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

I still say it's that spray on kitchen counter top maker. Have used it before and looks just like that. I didn't use on a guitar though.lol _________________ Henry Matthews

From the pictures that red goop looks like it may be some type of epoxy resin that some one tried to stiffen the cabinet with. It may have not been mixed proper and turned into goop. Used a similar looking resin to build boat parts with. May be a bear to remove and clean back to wood. Good Luck in this endeavor. |

Yeah, plastic. That's what it seems he was trying to do. (No, he was trying to deaden it; it's damping!) dnt undrstnd, and he didn't either.
I would bet that the modification wasn't done by Carr. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

Well it was sold by Carr and his name was all over it inside the body. _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

The top deck cleaned up pretty good. The Formica is ruined behind the neck but will be covered by a new pad.
