What a trip this was. My friend Dallas (City and Colour, my main gig) is close friends with Alecia (P!nk) and they made a record together a few years back and asked me to play on it. Most of the songs are just the three of us. Never thought playing pedal steel would lead me to playing on the Ellen show with a pop star! Strange world.

Way to go Matt, congratulations!

And I loved the tune - I think I will buy the CD - beautifully done.

That's great. I'll have to track down a copy of that. I'm a fan of P!nk's pop/rock stuff - she's a great singer/songwriter/performer - but had no idea this existed.

Very tasteful steel playing too.

Very tasteful, though you should have been spotlighted a bit more and given a solo! Winking

that is great.... the only way steel guitar is going to survive is if it gets accepted by styles other then country (or whatever that garbage is what they call country now days)....

Good eye, yeah. Had to boost everything about 3". Now I fit under it, but it's such a light guitar and now that it's even higher off the ground, sometimes when I use LKL or RKR, the whole guitar moves instead of the lever, haha.

I think you're probably right. I love playing traditional country, but it's always a good challenge trying to find ways to fit steel guitar into other genres.

Imagine a day where the average person actually recognizes a pedal steel when they see one on stage! Twice on the last tour I was on, I was asked if I was playing a theremin. Shocked
