Topic: Lamar ...Who has one? |

I just visited the "Lamar" steel guitar web site and fell in love with this brand.I really like it.Is there somebody on the forum that has one and still has it?I would like to hear some comments about this fine looking steel.I did a search about this on the forum and I believe that there are some members that have a Lamar steel.

Sorry, I just saw this post today.
I have one and it's made just great. It has excellent tone and I'm going to get it set up again, since I keep it as a backup steel and haven't played it for awhile. |

Ronald,
I have a Lamar U12, 8/5, keyless that I had custom built last year (Aug/04) by Lamar Colvin. It has rosewood aprons, maple top and rosewood neck with mother-of-pearl fret markers and frets, with a 25" scale. It is light weight (30 lbs). I have pic's I can email you if you want to see it. I would post them on the Forum but I don't have the ability to do that. Lamar has some refinements in his changer and knee levers you don't find in many other steels. |

If you look in the "Photo Gallery" section on the Lamar site, the first picture you come to will be my Lamar U-12.....It's a natural flamed Maple body , and has Rosewood edges.....You can not see any space at all in the different wood's used..
The cabinetry is the best of any pedal steel I have ever seen, and the rest of the steel is also top quality .....It plays very well, and stay's in tune, and is very light to move around .... Lamar Colvin is the builder , and will make just about any modifications to a steel that you could want .....He is a very dedicated builder, and builds a top quality custom guitar to your spec's ....Price depends on what you want , but I can tell you that he is very inexpensive considering what he gives you for your money ....I HIGHLY recommend the Lamar steel ....Jim |

Hey Ron,
Yes, I love my Lamar very much.
I've had it on tour many times,breaking down and setting up night after night.
It's light as a feather ,yet has great sound and sustain. I have a keyless S/10 and it's very compact.
The pedal action is silky and precise.
Changes in pulls are very easy to do.

There was an earlier statement on this thread that "David didn't seem to post so much any more" or something meaning much the same.
A two year or three ago I was looking at buying my first steel and attempted to buy one on offer. As part of the research, I noticed that David was actively extolling the virtues of this guitar maker and had in fact created a web page detailing the excellence of the detail and workmanship of Lamar Colvin. It was quite impressive.
Some time later (in an unrelated thread), some cretin posted a remark wondering "what a diamond dealer would know about steel guitar."
I didn't think it mattered what a guy did for a crust if he was interested in pedal steel.
However I don't recall seeing many posts from David Friedlander since.
Perhaps a lesson for us all.

I owned the U-12 Keyless shown on the web-site for about 8 months. Sold it to go back to a D-10. It was as well built a guitar as you could ask for and had super tone.
