Hi Dave--I've got a single neck 12 string universal p/p---on a double body with a pad. Are you asking about on a single body? That I don't know. |

I have two extended E9th 12 strings on the small body, one black, one rosewood. Are there two pickups on Buddies 12 string in that photo? [This message was edited by jim milewski on 10 April 2005 at 07:43 PM.] |

Dave,
Emmons only made push-pull single 12's, both single and double (D-12) bodies. They did make some double-12's as well, but never an all-pull (LeGrande) 12 string of any description, as far as I'm aware.
The one Buddy played on the 'Rainbow' album for Flying Fish Records was that basketweave guitar in the picture in Drew's link above, with three deuces and a four speed. He had an E13 tuning with a C# or two thrown in there. As far as I'm aware Buddy hasn't played the E9/B6 universal tuning -- at least not on any recordings.
The push-pull changer works fine for a universal setup and it's one of the best sounding 12-strings ever made. Mine is anyway.

I saw a single wide U-12 P/P Emmons at Billy Cooper's store in Orange, Va. a few years ago. It had 7 floor pedals and 4 knee levers. It didn't have a LKR and the verticle was the long type like Jeff Newman had which lowered the 5th string to Bb. It was a black mica finish and a very nice guitar. I wish I'd bought the guitar but I passed and now I wish I hadn't...JH in Va. |

I have an Emmons red single-body extended E9 push/pull (3&4) that I am slowly converting to a universal. |

I believe that's the guitar I bought from you in around 1983, when you were going to buy a Sierra. It had 4 pedals and 5 knees. I can't remember what the 4th pedal did. It was a nice guitar, but I always had trouble keeping it adjusted. I sold that guitar to a guy I met at a steel show in Concord, CA, just before I bought my first Carter, a U12.
Cheers,

David - That's just what I started with - a Derby Red S-12 with 3 pedals and 5 knee-levers. I ordered the parts from Emmons and rebuilt it as a U-12 with 7p and 5k. That was quite a chore, but I sure learned a lot about the Emmons p/p changer mechanism.

David,
Here's a post I put up a few years ago, regarding my Emmons U-12 that I had restored. The link in my old post shows pictures.....

I don't know. I can't remember the name of the guy I sold it to, but I think he lived somewhere in the Central Valley.
Cheer,
