Some of you may be aware of these guitars, I was not til I found this one! Mr Wells is from out west, and apparently has built quite a few of these. I am amazed at the quality of this build!. Take a look at the detail throughout, and what about that engraving. This guitar has a great tone, very good playability, accuracy, and workmanship. Notice the simplicity of the retainer clips holding the pull rods to the bell cranks!. The quality of workmanship of this guitar equals any that I've seen.

And these guitars sound great! I had Carson in my studio once playing his.....

| Very interesting that the right-pulling knee levers' bellcranks are underneath the cross-shafts, on an all-pull guitar. Why not? No need for a reversing mechanism. . . |

Never seen one of these guitars but WOW - Looks solid as a rock. Is the rodding system smooth?

Can you post a picture that illustrates this point? The one that's there is very hard to tell what's going on. |

| Nice guitar! The Excel also has cranks that pull underneath the cross rod to eliminate the need for a reversing lever. |

| In the 9th picture down are shown some springs at the bottom side of the changer. They are tapered and looks like a screw adjusts them. Anybody know what type of springs they are? |

Paul, Carson raised the cross shafts on the right knee moving knees, in order to avoid adding a reversing mechanism.
Also to the person asking about the tapered springs on the changer. Most builders in the era are using them now. easy to adjust the tension.They provide positive stop against the stop bar to insure the string returns to the open tuning.
These were great guitars and pretty to. |

| Those return springs should be available from some supplier. GFI uses the same type spring and a special screw with course threads that fits inside the spring, Makes tension adjustment easy on their ULTRA. GFI's pedal bar is similar too with the white plastic spacers between each pedal in the extrusion grove the pedals slide into. The pedal rod to pedal connector is very close to the ones used by MSA years ago, Just it is on the front of the pedal instead of the side the way MSA pedals are. One neat built steel with beautiful engraving and polishing. |
