I think I am going to try and build my own speaker cabinet for a 15" SICA speaker. While I certainly have the ability to build a nice enclosure, I have no idea as to technical requirements i.e. dimensions, closed vs open, enclosure volume etc. Any suggestions would be VERY much appreciated.

An open backed enclosure really can be any size you want. The small Nashville 400 sized amps sound great.
I built a 5E3 clone last year, and bought a cab off the bay from Rawcabs. It didn't have a knot in it, and was about $160!
I also built a 12" cab for a Bandit project that i used scrap plywood, put together with biscuits, it too sounds fine.

Here is a open back cab I built 2 years ago. Please double check the dimension with your speaker, if you decide to build one. I designed it to use Roland Cube 80XL corner protectors, and solid pine. The speaker support plywood is 3/4" because I had some laying around the shop, 1/2" would work as well.

Try this guy. Good prices for both 12" and 15".

I built a cabinet for my Eminence EPS-15C. It is the same size as a Peavey Nashville 112 except 1" taller to accommodate the 15" speaker. The back is partially open. I used the same dimensions as Peavey used for the bottom back and the same size as the NV112 chassis for the top section. Been using this for several years.
