I tuned it open D# then if I push the knee lever to the 1/2 stop and tune with the nylon tuner to D it is ok but when I push past the half stop to get the c# it is way sharp. If I tune the full lower with the nylon tuner It is ok but the D is way flat at the half stop.It is a Derby guitar with a half stop on the string but I really don't know how to go about adjusting it so i haven't messed with it. any help would be appreciate it. |

Lee, Tune your 2nd string open then full lower with the Nylon tuner.
Most guitars are set up to use the 9th string lower so as to get the 1/2 stop feel on the 2nd.
EDIT: I reread the last sentence. If your guitar has a mechanical 1/2 stop, you would tune the 2nd string open then tune the lower as well as the 9th string lower.
Then you would use the mechanical half stop and adjust it to get your 1/2 stop on the 2nd string. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

Lee, doesn't your Derby have a feel-stop adjustment for the second string under the guitar?
Your final lower is set with the split screws at the end of the neck, but I don't know if that is in play with this double lower adjustment. Holler if I can help you. JO. |

I sort of thought that what Dick said about the mechanical half stop to adjust the d# to D lower but I'm not sure how that things works so i didn't mess with it. Jerry do i just loosen the set screw in the collar and move it one way or the other? |

No. That just sets the tension. I thought all Derbys had a knurled knob on a threaded shaft on the linkage to adjust the half stop travel like Dick's edit. I'll see if I can find an online pic to refer to....Maybe yours doesn't.
Otherwise, some guitars set the timing for the second string and the ninth, so that when the lever picks up the resistance of the ninth, the second string will have met the half tone.
Found a photo of the mechanism that Derby's use for the second string feel stop. The brass knob is the adjustment for the half tone tuning that Dick refers to.

Welcome, but I think Dick covered it earlier. I just overlooked his edit when I posted before, sorry Dick.
No matter I guess, long as it works out. |

Jerry which collar do you move to make the feel stop harder the one at the end of the spring in the picture or the one behind the bracket that you can't see in the picture? the one next to the brass knurled nob is just to keep it from backing out right? I don't know why i can't seem to get this thing in my head. |

Yeah, the one that you can see at the opposite end in front of the spring. Compress the spring for more tension.
Gimme a holler if you want. |
