Never used any added effects before apart from reverb and delay on my Roland Cube 80 XL.Finally decided to try a "rat" on a Steve Cunningham tune that's been in my head for a long while.Bad day yesterday so turned up the volume and gave it try with a bit of a welt. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t955cVWgBk8&t=2s |

There are quite a few effects that can sound great on lap steel. I use tremolo a lot and, in the right musical setting phasing and flanging can be cool too. My other favourite is a Leslie effect. |

I use effects not based on what I like but based on what that individual song/client needs/wants.
I'm not going to lie though. The better I'm getting the more I am staying away from them. _________________ Stefan

I love using effects with my lap steel, especially when I play with younger singer/songwriters who might not be looking for a traditional lap steel sound (which I personally love as well)
I've been building my own effects pedals for almost 20 years so It's really a natural fit for me. I just built a sitar simulator and I'm loving it.. _________________ "Don't be mad honey, but I bought another one" |

I use a sitar bar for that. |

Depending on the song, I'll use overdrive, delay, tremelo and or phaser. Also fun is a clean boost for solos, to kick the amp into a little overdrive. Oh, yeah - for fun (and funk), an envelope filter can be cool. _________________ Peter

I have a pedal board with a 2 channel drive, a Univibe, a delay & a tuner. I carry a volume pedal in the van & use every now and then.

I use lots of palm and finger harmonics, sometimes even as a second recording part throughout the entire song. Tremolo is a regular, probably because I was a major fan of Little Roy Wiggins.
Also sometimes use a Sitar Bar for certain songs, and sometimes when a good situation occurs where the bar is on the 12th fret, I raise the guard fingers behind the bar, and strum between the 12th fret and nut or 12th fret and bridge for the special sound effect.
Also various reverb settings on my Peavey Nashville 112 amp. _________________ My Vintage Steel Guitars

If I'm also playing underarm guitar, I'll bring my pedalboard that has a compressor, two OD's, Modulation, Delay and a Volume Pedal. I like a little overdrive and once in a while some phasing. I use delay and reverb quite a bit.
And sometimes I'll just plug into my little '52 Silvertone "Champ" and it'll be all I need. |
