In the thread about Paul F's T-10 guitar with the baritone neck, I speculated that the tuning might be an E9 but voiced an octave lower, for those with D-10s but with no use for the C6 neck.

But upon reflection, I think an E octave tuning might be too low. I'm thinking a B9 diatonic might be more balanced.

Perhaps the strings and tuning might be thusly:

For those amongst us with D-10 guitars but with little need for a C6 tuning or knowledge of same, a tuning of this type would offer more bottom end fullness and maybe a whole new way of thinking about soloing.

Anybody here feel that this tuning might be worthwhile to explore? Comments welcome.

Herb,I tried B9th many years ago on an extra Blanton guitar that I had...I remember that it was cool and I should try it again now that I'm thinking clearer.

I think A9 might be better. The low E note is so useful on the bandstand:

Here are 2. The first is from a 2002 gig with a blues rock band, and I'm playing with distortion.
The song is in A, so I ended my solo on the low B string, dropped to A, a 5th below the low E on a 6 string guitar.

The second is a 16th century classical piece, which I played with 2 orchestral musicans. I play almost the entire piece on tbe 3 bass atrings of my U-12, below the B on the 10th string of a standard E9.

To be fair, Mike's clips aren't a diatonic baritone copedent. They're more like a standard U-12. He goes lower than a baritone and doesn't have diatonic strings in the middle register like a baritone does.

b0b is correct. My tuning is not diatonic.

As I previously said, I don’t really use the B6 pedals. The advantage of the U-12 for me is the extra bass strings.

I have extra changes on them, including dropping the low B to A, which you can hear in the rock video, and lowering my 11th strung from E to C# on the E to F lever, so I have a bass note for the C# chord made with the A pedal and F, lever I also drop the 11th string to C# on a separate knee lever so I have a bass both for the C# minor chord.

The 3 bass strings are extremely useful. When I was gigging in country bands, I'd use them to back up the lead guitarists while they were taking rides. And although the music on the video and sound clip is radically divergent, both show the advantages of the extended bass range
