My 6 string guitar volume pedal is an Ernie Ball VP Jr. It uses a 250k pot. With the changes in music I've went to a guitar with a high output humbucker in the bridge and a P90 in the neck position. Now when I back off the volume pedal the tone gets dark on the guitar. I never noticed this with my Telecasters.
Could I install the Dunlop “Type J†Potentiometer that I installed in my Goodrich L120. The solder terminals are different on it. I don't know what else is different. I'm not sure it if it would work or not. I think if it would work it would sound a lot better.
Thanks. |

You would probably have to dismantle the pedal and drill a larger hole in the pot mounting block.
You might check the Ernie Ball website. They have a 500K pot that went in the 6165 stereo volume pedal.

It looks like it is the same shaft size, but not sure about the mounting size. You could probably email them and ask. _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus! |

Using a 500k pot may actually make the problem a little worse. With the volume pedal backed off the same amount (same ratio or volume reduction), more series resistance will be placed in the circuit by the 500k pot than the 250k. Thus impedance will be higher and the treble-shunting effect of the cable's capacitance will be greater.
A buffer would eliminate the problem as John mentioned. Almost any active effects pedal could serve as a buffer. |

The volume pedal is at the end of my chain. I have several buffers in front of it, Visual Sound OD and 2 Boss GE-7s.
For this weekend I think I will just pull the pedal out of the chain and set my L120 beside my pedal board and run through that. |

I think that you will find the problem is much less with a 500k pot- regardless of Ernie Ball vs the L120. |
