I sat down to play today and I'm getting a lot of bar noise and overtones so much I can barely play a slow song. Any idea of what could cause this. I have a 705 on my justice steel. Can a pickup do this. Hilton volume pedal. Revelation preamp with octal tube. Sound seems the same. Just getting overtones. Any ideas

Two things come to mind. Are you muting the strings behind the bar and second would be not using enough pressure on the bar.

If you lift your fingers off the strings while playing at the 5,7 and 12th frets you will get overtones.

Thanks but it's nothing to do with technique. It was fine until today.

Your pickup might have gone microphonic. Turn up your amp, push the volume pedal down and speak closely into the pickup. If you can hear your voice, that's possibly the problem.

I remember linda and Sylvan. Seems she went to my grandparents church. I went to Russell Slvan was a year younger than me. Linda maybe older. Didn't she go into the service. One of my daughters was good friends with Sylvan's daughter in school. Can't remember her name. Look me up if you ever get to town

Jeff, Was that Bro. Cyrus's church? Sylvan's daughters are Jennifer and Allison (deceased). Sylvan also has been gone for about 6 or so years. L. Hobson

That was the church. Allison was her friend. I thought I heard Sylvan passed. I attended that church some. Had a lot of good friends there. Still do.

Overtones? It could be bad strings or burrs on the changer. I don't think there's any way that a pickup or an amp could cause string noise, but a pickup too close to the strings could possibly magnify the problem.

It's a intermittent problem. Its done it two times. Strings burrs. Would do it all the time. One guy said he had a705 pickup that did it but all the time. I've heard this do crazy things. Honestly I've never heard anything like this. When it does it
