Great picture. Is it similar to the Fender Vibrasonic? |

Although the Custom 15 is a PCB reissue. I like mine a lot, but my Ultralinear Twin with two Eminence Legend EM12Gs sounds better. It'd be cheaper to get an old silverface Twin, put it in a Rick Johnson (or Mojotone) cab, and it would probably sound better. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I hear the Music Man amps are similar to a Twin and sound really good. |

I owned a Custom 15 for a couple of years. The mid-range control is very sensitive but you can get a very good sound once you figure it out. The downside is the amp is heavy. Some people like them, and others don't. The new prices are nuts, but you can find a fair price on a lightly used amp.
BTW: Craig mentioned Music Man, I have a couple of those and like them very much. I think they are much nicer than any of the Fender amps I have owned.

Craig,
The RD100 with an EVM Series II 12 inch, will hold it own especially if you mostly play E9th stuff. This has been my main amp since I bought it new around 1980.

I have two Music Man amps-an all original'79ish 210-65 and an '81 212HD-150.Although the 210-65 is hands down the best six-string amp I have ever owned and I can't say enough good about it,it's just okay for steel. The HD has been thru a couple of sets of speakers-none original-and has never been more than adequate for either six-string or steel. One amp that(surprisingly) worked well for steel was a Super Twin I had back in the day. |

Was asking bc my MM RP65 112 has the original MM labelled speaker and it is unuseable for steel. |

Tom,
Your RP65 would certainly be a good steel amp, not sure about the speaker as I have never tried that one.
I have mainly used EVM 12L inch, EVM 15L inch, and JBL 12 inch with my MM amps. I prefer the EVM over the JBL but all of the above work just fine.

Thanks Robert. I have a line on a Peavey 1203. Do you think that would be close enough with this amp? |

Tom,
Can't really offer an opinion on the PV speaker. I had a BW 15 inch when they first came on the market (77,78 ) but never cared much for it. At the time I was using a LTD400 and/or Twin Reverb silver face.

I have a Session 500 with a BW(original to the amp,I think)and I like it at least as much as the Custom 15. |

What is an Ultralinear Twin? Is that just a 2x12 Twin? |

Considering buying one of these.
I'm really just looking for a reasonably priced Fender amp with built in reverb that has the classic fender tone.
I've compared price points with used 70's 15 inch Fender tube amps like the vibrasonic and these are about 200-400 dollars cheaper. |

The Ultralinear is a late 70s model with a different output transformer that reflects less power back to the tubes (I'm not sure if it's a SWR thing, but it sounds like it: Craig Baker could have told me.)
Instead of 85 or a hundred watts, it has an output of 135.
It's less prone to sag, compress or break up than the other versions. Guitar players don't dig them because they're less soulful. I like mine. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Thanks, Lane. Looks like the Ultralinear goes for a pretty similar price. Great option to be aware of. How much weight are we talking? 90lbs?
Regarding the Twin Custom does it get you in the ballpark of the classic sound? Sparkly cleans, deep reverb? I've read they weigh about 60lbs. |

Here's the Ultralinear Twin getting a chance to stretch its legs

Here's my 65RI Twin: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bWtRNJb973g
My YouTube channel also has a three way shootout between the Milkman, a Session 400, and the 65 Reissue Twin. Some say they like the green one the best. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
