Does anyone have experience using a Quilter tone block or a quilter
mini head for steel? I am going over seas for a tour and instead of flying a peavey
I am considering bringing a head and renting a speaker cabinet when I'm there. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Leo,Derek Thurlby one of the UK's top steel players/ guitarist uses two Pro Blocks built into a rack , one for steel and one for guitar, he gets a superb sound. He regularly works for touring American artists in U.K. and Europe

I have a Quilter Tone Block 200 that has plenty of power but a little short on tone-settings for pedal steel. But I recently put one of these in front of it and was very pleased with the results: http://www.joyoaudio.com/en/product/show_110.html
Ordered it here: https://www.cheaperpedals.com/

I love the Mini 101 head. Coupled it with a Wampler Black '65 and that gives me full eq capabilities (bass, treble, mid) and Blackface tones for days. I also have a Steelaire but the Mini 101 is wonderful. You might want to get the Pro if you want to have a built-in reverb and an xlr out. |

Thanks a lot guys this is all very helpful! I guess my main concern
is getting a big clean sound that I can EQ. I'll most likely bring my own verb unit.
I have heard people say they like using the GK bass heads for steel and that is another option I am looking into. I am wondering if it would have more headroom than the Tone Block. |

I would go with a GK MB 200 if I were you. More of a straightforward eq. Both the MB 200 and the Quilter Blocks are rated at 200 watts. MB is cheaper too. _________________ Shobud "The Professional" D-10, Stage One S-10, National "New Yorker," NV400 |

Leo, although now using Steelaire rack head now, I used MB200 for over four years, great little amp( out board effects needed, I use Digitech RP150), I had it built into 12inch cab, which I now use with the Steelaire, I left the MB 200 in place and it is now my back up amp.The Steelaire is a better sounding amp, but there is nothing wrong with The MB, it can be seen in my pic with my two cabs-one 12 and one 15.

I wrote Pat Quilter, and he said:
"The Tone Block 201 has more EQ options, the Pro Block has more effects (such as reverb)". _________________ A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first. |

I have a question
The Tone Block is a mini amp head ?
I can just plug into a speaker Cab and go ? But would need effect unit for reverb and delay etc.
The GK M200 ? Mini Amp head also ?
200 watts @ 2 lbs. |

I'm using a Carvin BX250 to power one 15"BW, then patched from the direct out on the Carvin to a Tone Block to power another 15"BW. However, I use a Boss 59 Bassman pedal to contour the tone of the Tone Block to match the tone of the Carvin. Plenty of power and great tone. I especially like the two midrange variable controls on the Carvin to dial in tone.
I use the MXR Carbon Copy for delay with a TC Electronic Hall Of Fame for reverb. Great combination. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

Malcolm,
That is quite a rig you've got! I like the backup amp option there
This has all been helpful guys. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you!

Bruce,
Yes that is the idea.. A small lightweight amp head that still
has lots of power. |

Just so you know: The Toneblock 101 on "Full Q" setting is only 50 watts (up to 100 on the "Jazz" setting.)
The Tone Block 201 has up to 200 watts on "Full Q" & "Jazz" setting (way more headroom). _________________ A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first. |

Hey Alex,

Thanks
